Art Therapy

Art Therapy is a therapeutic healing form that uses drawing, painting and other art processes to assess and treat patients with emotional, cognitive, physical, and/or developmental needs and disorders.  The therapy is based on the belief that the creative process of art is both healing and life-enhancing.  Art therapists work with children, adolescents and adults, providing a service to individuals, couples, families, groups and communities.

Benefits of Art Therapy

Art Therapy is used to increase insight and judgement, cope better with stress, work through traumatic experiences, strengthen cognitive skills, and awaken a sense of pleasure.

Art Therapy in the treatment of Depression & Anxiety

Anxiety is often cause by underlying fears.  Art therapy helps to discover and define such fears, so they can be dealt with.  Art therapy helps a patient discover what they love and enjoy, boosts their self-esteem, and increase a sense of self-worth, leading to an ultimate reduction of anxiety symptoms.

Depression is defined by some anger turned inward.  Art therapy can help a depressed individual discover their anger and express it in a healthy way.  The creative process of art therapy can aid in coping with such emotions as guilt, worthlessness, and hopelessness, which can lead to depression.

Art therapy is an effective and creative way to aid an individual towards self-knowledge and emotional health.
